Dear Person,

It’s only 5 days before the big Christmas day. Your heart is all set. There in the closet is the new dress you will be wearing on Christmas eve. You have all the beautiful expectations of the food, the fun and the good and beautiful experience of Christmas with your family or your friends.

3 days ago, in the Southern part of the Philippines, a thousand people shared the same thought. They were thinking of Christmas too. Some of them were excited because there’ll be parties. Some kids were in the neighborhood earlier that day because they had plans for caroling. Some parents already bought new clothes for their kids, new toys… and had in mind, plans for a simple Christmas eve celebration.

But 3 days ago, on the dread of the night, they were woken up by a strong gush of wind, and the sudden surge of muddy water, which rose within an hour above the level of their houses. Some of them fought to survive until the next morning. Some of them woke up too late. Some of them lived, some of them did not make it.

3 days ago, all their plans for Christmas were cancelled.

3 days ago, some of the kids who planned for caroling the next night were found covered with mud, lifeless. The new clothes for Christmas are nowhere to be found, some blended with the Earth, wasted. Some parents held their lifeless children. Some parents and children — are not yet found.

It’s only 5 days before the big Christmas day, and your heart is all set.                   

But if in that heart, there’s a little space left for these people who lost their plans, their houses, their loved ones… please, please, give it a time to touch these people’s lives. Give them what you can give. Give them the basic things that will keep them warm this Christmas… that will keep them going, that will soothe their weeping hearts … that will ease their burdened spirits.

They need food, they need clothes, they need blankets, they need medicines, and they need shelter.

If there’s any of these things you can give, do not hesitate to give. Do not hesitate to make their lives better.

Help them, because that is what the BIG MAN who will be celebrating HIS birthday 5 days from now is asking from you. This will be your gift for HIM. J
